What are Spider Veins?

Spider veins are tiny veins that develop at the skin surface and they are typically blue or red in appearance.

Spider veins are generally asymptomatic but very occasionally they can produce local discomfort. Usually they are of aesthetic interest only.

There are multiple factors which may predispose us to these unsightly veins, which may include:

• Heredity/ Genetic Disorders
• A history of blood clots or clotting issues
• Occupations involving standing for excessive periods of time
• Obesity/ Overweight
• Previous trauma
• Previous vein treatment

Spider Vein Treatment

Like Reticular vein treatment, “Scleropathy” is the most commonly practiced procedure, where a solution is injected via a fine needle directly into the affected vein. The solution causes an irritation in the lining of the vessel, destroying it. The treated vein is then slowly removed by the body as it would a bruise.
